Background:
Audio (click on the title to download...set your player to REPEAT): Background: This album, composed of 100 pieces, is planned for release in May 2009. The concept is a short recording which should be listened to in the context of repetition, according to the listener's taste. I became interested in this through my use of looping equipment. Often after spending some time improvising and creating interesting loops, I found myself drawn to listen to them over and over again, in the place of other music. I've listened to 10-second pieces for hours sometimes. When I'm not concentrating, they form an enjoyable sonic wallpaper (to borrow a phrase often associated with Brian Eno). When I listen closely, though, I hear different things emerging over time, even in the simplest texture. All tracks were recorded with a four-track tape machine loaded w/a homemade loop tape and a microcassette Dictaphone. (Here's an article I wrote for Looper's Delight about this process).
