(I'm super excited to be part of this. Matthew Sperry was a very active bass player in San Francisco, playing with the likes of Tom Waits as well as in the local production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He was struck by a car and killed while riding his bicycle to work soon before I left San Francisco in 2004. Each year since, players in the local jazz/free music scene put on a weekend festival in his honor).

(This is the first show of a new series the Portland Playhouse is putting on of entirely acoustic music shows, with no amplification at all. Their venue is a beautiful church where the Decemberists reportedly recorded Picaresque. (this is going to be a MASSIVE night of music. Mimo is a conceptual music duo (I think that's how they'd best be described) who quite literally played an espresso machine when I met them last year. Ted Harms is a free-minded, exploratory acoustic bassist from Kitchener that I enjoyed playing with the last time I was in Toronto, James Bailey is a mad & jolly circuit bender I met at the Santa Cruz Looping Festival. When looking for a venue I found the Bookworm, with Jay already slated to play, and they were willing to bring all of us aboard. We're going to fit everybody in, and it may result in some really interesting combinations.)
